How do I pray for my MP without being partisan?

Learn how to pray for your MP without partisan praise or criticism, using two WEB passages and concrete, balanced prayer points.

Pray for the responsibilities of the office and the people affected by its work. You do not need to praise a party, excuse a decision, or hide disagreement in order to ask God for wisdom, integrity, endurance, and care.

A non-partisan prayer can hold the whole riding before God: neighbours with different needs, staff carrying demanding work, families living with public pressure, and an elected representative making complex decisions.

I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places, that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth.

1 Timothy 2:1-4 World English Bible

Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.

Jeremiah 29:7 World English Bible

This passage keeps the shared welfare of the community at the centre of prayer.
